The history of struggle by Chickasaw and Choctaw Freedmen and their fight to remain on the soil of their birth in the nation of their ancestors has never been an easy road to travel.

Oklahoma statehood was only four years earlier and ten years later there would be the massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma that people talk about today.

Anyone researching the history of Black people in Indian Territory the loss of life and property that occurred in Tulsa was a constant threat to the men and women who were instrumental in the development of the state but were not allowed to benefit because of the threats to their lives and their livelihood. 

This news story informs that Blacks that had their roots on the soil of Indian Territory & Oklahoma, were “prepared to fight” against those who sought to uproot them from their homes, their sacred burial sites and the land of their ancestors.
