“Adoption of Freedmen Children”

The resistance to citizenship for the freedmen and their descendants included children who were born after April 26, 1906. 

The children of the Choctaw Freedmen were successful getting their children enrolled and eligible for land allotments. The Freedmen of the Chickasaw Nation were not as successful securing forty acres of land for their descendants.
